Projects completed 2017

Location: Littleton, NH
Owner: NH National Guard
Engineer: Tighe & Bond

Project Description

This Project involved construction at two NH National Guard Bases Littleton and Strafford, NH.  The smaller site was in Littleton, NH.  This site required improvements to drainage and the parking lot.  Additionally, the base was better secured with fencing and security gates as part of the project.

Project Background

This site handles many of the NH National Guards vehicle’s maintenance needs.  As such is a highly active site with significant parking needs.  With poorly controlled water in areas of the site there were puddles and muddy areas which would become hazards at different times of the year.

Project Goals

Issue: Significant ponding occurs within the parking lot which leads to slip/fall hazards during the winter.
Solution: Drainage was reorganized on the site to properly drain areas through the installation of closed drainage systems, swales, and detention ponds.

Issue:  Very little area is available for snow storage on site.
Solution: A snow gate was installed to allow for another portion of the site to be used for snow storage.

Project Description

The larger portion of the work occurred at the Strafford, NH Training Facility.  Here, the project involved construction of a new paved track with associated drainage, an expanded secure vehicle storage area and a new Obstacle Course to prepare soldiers for the Air Assault School.

Project Background

In Strafford, the existing running track was small and did not meet the needs of the National Guard.  The new track was built to National Guard Standards and was constructed to be a Quarter Mile Track.  Additionally, in a continuing effort to improve the readiness of National Guard soldiers they needed an Air Assault Obstacle Course.  These two additions greatly increased the training abilities for the National Guard using their own facilities here in New Hampshire.  In addition to training needs an enlarged vehicle storage area allowed for greater abilities to securely store vehicles.

Project Goals

Issue: Providing a track that meets the needs of the National Guard’s Physical Fitness Test 2-Mile Run
Solution: An asphalt paved track was installed with both open and closed drainage systems to allow for a new running track that met the National Guard’s needs.

Issue: A way to conduct Air Assault training in the State of New Hampshire for the soldiers.
Solution: Construct an Air Assault Obstacle Course on the site of a less used grenade range.  This allows soldiers to prepare for the more advanced training off-site.
