Calcium Chloride
Calcium Chloride can be used to help maintain roads, whether that’s using it to cut down the dust on your gravel roads, stabilize your gravel road base to prevent potholes and wash boarding, or when reclaiming paved roads.
Using Calcium Chloride in your ongoing highway road maintenance program will lead to lowering the time and money spent on road maintenance; such as grading, reducing labor hours, and reducing the replacement costs of any gravel or material used to repair your roads.
Our biggest use of Calcium Chloride is for dust control. Calcium Chloride draws moisture from the air, which is retained in the soil, reducing the amount of dust. The best time to apply Calcium Chloride is after your Spring grading and before the roads get dry and dusty. It is best to apply the product to a damp surface making it penetrate into the soil deeper.
Chloride can be used in the winter as a deicer or pre-wetting materials.
Applying chloride to the road before a winter storm will prevent snow and ice from binding to the pavement due to Chloride generating immediate contact surface heat, causing easier snow removal. Pre-wetting granular materials with chloride will allow the materials to work at a much lower temperature.
